Sandy Troudt, AFCA
BIOGRAPHY
Sandy immersed herself in art after a satisfying career of teaching and school administration. After retirement she studied with many notable artists and mentors whose expertise helped her find her own path. She enjoys mentoring others on a casual and professional level.
She is a signature member (AFCA) of the Federation of Canadian Artists and founding member and past president of its Peace River Chapter. Sandy is, as well, a founding member and past president of Flying Colours Artists' Association in the Peace Region.
Her award-winning work reflects her efforts to convey the essence of nature's fleeting moments through her impressionistic and abstracted acrylic paintings. The challenge of experimentation with technique and medium sustains her delight in various creative processes.
Living in the North Peace Region of B.C., it is easy to say that the natural beauty of her surroundings inspires much of Sandy’s work. She is fascinated by the contrast between forested and cultivated land at the edge of the wilderness. Vibrant, wide-open landscapes capture her attention as well as the small, intimate details that blaze brightly in hidden places. Trees frequently become the main ‘characters’ in her landscapes as they draw her eye to the spirit and beauty found in untamed settings.
Printmaking is also a part of Sandy's studio practice. The constant exchange of ideas and visual vocabulary between painting and printmaking has a wonderful synergy; the two media continually enhance the elements of each process.
Unbound, she likes to take her work in multiple directions and continues the dance between painting and printmaking as curiosity and invention lead her to undertake new challenges. Through constant exploration and renewal, she has created an eclectic body of work and believes that the exploration of the unknown for both an artist and her audience is what makes an alluring work of art.
Her work is represented in the 2014 publication, ARTISTS OF B.C. – Volume 4 and her artwork has been featured in numerous editions of Southwest Art Magazine (Art in Canada, Women in Art and International Landscapes and more) from 2015 - 2023.
Sandy's work may currently be viewed at Peace Gallery North in Fort St. John, BC, the Grant Berg Gallery in Grande Prairie, AB, and in selected shows in galleries throughout the Peace Region and at the Federation Gallery on Grandville Island in Vancouver, BC.
